A Traditional Irish Bar/venue, Beautifully Reborn
The building has been carefully refurbished throughout, blending its original character with a fresh, contemporary finish. Period features have been retained and restored — including the striking black-and-white tiled landing and original open fireplaces — while the bar and lounge have been sympathetically updated to keep their warm, old-world charm.
Upstairs you'll find eight individually designed en-suite bedrooms, finished in deep navy and soft cream with bold contemporary artwork throughout. Downstairs, the bar, lounge and dining hall flow into a spacious ballroom — a versatile space built for weddings, milestone celebrations and private events.
We're a live music venue every Saturday night, hosting the best traditional Irish and ballad groups along with some of the finest local musicians, with the sound carried throughout the pub on our widescreen HD TVs and state-of-the-art surround system. Food is served daily, with a menu that balances traditional and edgy dishes to suit all tastes — including seasonal vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, a Healthy Option menu, and our homemade stone-baked pizzas, a firm favourite with regulars. Add to that an extensive range of draught and premium beers, perfectly poured pints and a great atmosphere, and there's always a warm welcome waiting at The Auld Shebeen.
Sample our extensive range of draught and premium beers, with Prosecco and wine available on tap — or share a bottle of bubbles or something from our diverse wine list, with a choice to suit every palate. Our cocktail menu offers a mix of traditional and seasonal favourites, perfect for settling in for the evening.
Family is at the heart of The Auld Shebeen. Children are welcome on the premises, and we offer a tasty kids' menu with plenty of choice, along with highchairs and modern baby-changing facilities.
Our bar, lounge and outdoor terrace are fully wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet on site. We also offer free car parking and free WiFi throughout the premises.
Ideally located in the heart of Moate, Co. Westmeath, we sit right on the M6 corridor in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands — easy to reach from every direction. We're roughly 15 minutes from Athlone, 30 minutes from Mullingar, around an hour from Galway, and about 90 minutes from Dublin.
There's plenty on the doorstep. Moate is home to Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park, while nearby you'll find Locke's Distillery in Kilbeggan, the historic town of Athlone with its riverside bars and castle, and the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnoise on the banks of the Shannon. For walkers and outdoor lovers, the lakes and trails of the midlands are all close by.
Whether you're here to explore, passing through on your travels, or making a night of it, our location is the perfect base — with a warm welcome, comfortable rooms and a great pint waiting when you return.
